"One third of the Bible is concerned with providing relief from disease and
sickness. The issue of healing permeates our relationship with God at almost
every level. The body that God has given us is more than an empty shell that
holds our spirit. The body is instead an integral part of the relationship
we have with the Creator. When it is broken or diseased, the spirit suffers.
When the spirit is bruised, the body is disturbed.
Healing is a daily process that teaches us to be more fully in communion
with God. Healing must not be relegated to physicians and the healthcare
system. Instead, the faith community is expected to make healing a central
issue in all matters of hope, love and compassion. Healing is a process,
which seeks to make us whole, and our relationship with God is, in part,
dependent on healing continually taking place." G. Scott Morris,
Church Health Center in
Memphis
In these times...
when many people often live far from extended family members;
when many people have never been inside a church and experienced the
family feeling, help and support that Christian community brings;
when many people face stress, child-raising, life questions, serious
illness and injury alone;
when life can seem lonely, overwhelming and difficult, even to folks
with good support systems;
and when there are often days when we just don't understand "why this
is happening to me"...
God is still with you, and there are people serving God who want
to reach out to you and welcome you to a community of faith and healing.
In addition to its regular Sunday morning service at 10:50 a.m., Crescent
Hill United Methodist Church (www.CHUMchurch.org)
is beginning two new services, designed to reach out to
the entire community. Both services begin Wednesday, January 10th, and
will be held each Wednesday in the new year.
Healing Worship Service, Wednesdays, from 6-6:30 p.m.: supported by the Health &
Wellness Team of CHUM Church, and led by Rev. Ron Young, this is a service
of renewal and healing. Come and be prayed for, and join us in praying for
all people who need emotional, physical and spiritual healing. Casual
dress encouraged. We meet EVERY Wednesday (and have since 10 January
2007). What do we do in Healing Worship? We worship God; we
listen to inspirational messages from the Old & New Testaments; we pray to
God for healing for ourselves and for others (emotional, physical,
spiritual, social). It's a service of laughter and tears; a time for
coming together before the Lord to ask for help. No matter your faith
background, YOU are welcome to this service.
You are not alone; there is a community of loving people here in
Louisville who want to welcome you with open minds, open hearts and open
doors.
After Healing Worship, come to the Quin Lounge for a relaxed, friendly time
of prayer, discussion, reflection, talk and FOOD! Bring a dish--this winter,
the format is "potluck".Leave when you want, share
what you want, go home with a peaceful heart and a full belly! We'll chat
about life, witness to what we're seeing God do in our lives and the lives
of those around us, discuss the Scriptures from Healing Worship, talk about
books we're reading that are helping us grow. And we'll keep each other GOOD
COMPANY and EAT TOGETHER! Everyone is welcome; we mean it when we say "Open
Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors."
This event made possible by the loving congregation of
CHUM.
